The Goulamina Project Starts to Produce
On December 15 local time, a commissioning ceremony was held for the first phase of Ganfeng’s Goulamina project, which demonstrate the official operation of this project. According to exploration result, the project is with resource of 7,140,000 tonne LCE. The designed annual production capacity is 506,000 tonne lithium concentrate. Ganfeng plans to ramp up the annual production to further transfer the resource superiority to cost advantage.
The First Large-scale Lithium Refinery in the U.S.
On December 14, Tesla North America account on X announced that, for the first time, the team fed raw materials through the kiln of its Robstown lithium refinery. Upon reaching volume production, this lithium refinery is expected to produce around 50GWh of battery- grade lithium annually.
A Pilot Plant in Arkansas Begins Operations
Standard Lithium announced it has launched a pilot direct lithium extraction (DLE) plant in Arkansas to process brine for battery-quality lithium carbonate. Operations at the pilot plant are expected to continue until late January 2025, producing 1,000 gallons (3,785 litres) of 6% lithium chloride (LiCl) solution,which is expected to produce approximately 30 kg of battery-grade lithium carbonate.
Chilean Government Pave Path for Partner Search
Chilean authorities are expected to grant Enami a lithium operating license by year-end, paving the way for the state company to secure partners to develop the project. All six local indigenous communities have given their consent for the Altoandinos project to proceed in salt flats in the northern desert, allowing for permits to be granted
Miner Venture into Lithium
Following the purchases made by Rio Tinto, miner ventures began to move into lithium. An existing 0.5% gross overriding revenue royalty on the construction-stage Tres Quebradas lithium project in northern Argentina from Lithium Royalty Corp. for $28 million is going to be purchased by Triple Flag Precious Metals.
